72 Hoorain: Makers of film to hold a special screening at Jawaharlal Nehru University on July 4 after facing criticism from CBFC

Amidst controversies since its teaser launch, the propaganda film ’72 Hoorain’ is set for a special screening at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU).

JNU has had a history of controversies whenever a hard-hitting movie has been screened in the premises. With 72 Hoorain, it could add another layer of complexity to the situation.

“This film makes serious statement about terrorism,” says ’72 Hoorain’ director Sanjay Puran, reported Times of India.

Sanjay said, “When you produce a movie for the big screen, you want the movie trailer to be shown in theatres. The film trailer is not certified by the censor board. The censor board instructed you to make changes to the trailer on July 27 before it is released on August 28.”

The previous instances of movie screening controversies demonstrated the polarising nature of hard-hitting films and the varying reactions they elicit. Despite that, the makers of 72Hoorain have taken a risky yet firm step in putting up a screening of the film in the premises of the university on Tuesday, 4th of July.

Renowned religious figure Maulana Sajid Rashid earlier raised objections to the film 72 Hoorain, accusing the makers of distorting religious teachings and insulting the tenets of the faith.

Talking about the screening of 72 Hoorain at JNU, the makers of the movie said that it presents a significant moment for Kashmiri Muslim and other students to express their thoughts and reactions to a film that delves into the gruesome reality of terrorist camps.
