Defence Minister Approves Establishment of Four NCC Units in JK, Ladakh
SRINAGAR: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has given the green light to a proposal for the establishment of four new NCC Units in the Union Territories of Jammu Kashmir and Ladakh.
The approved plan is strategically designed to create additional NCC units in regions of strategic importance, aligning with the government’s vision to actively engage young minds in activities that foster leadership, discipline, and national service.
The approval includes one Mixed (Boys & Girls) Army Battalion each at Udhampur (J&K), Kupwara (J&K) and Kargil (Ladakh), and one Air Squadron at Udhampur (J&K), as per an official handout.
The Defence Ministry stated, “The decision is poised to create more avenues for the youth of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh to actively participate in the NCC, contributing to their holistic development. The NCC, with its focus on character building, leadership, and social responsibility, has proven to be a transformative force in the lives of countless young individuals across the country.”
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh highlighted the pivotal role played by the NCC in shaping the future leaders of the nation, emphasizing that expanding its presence in Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh is a strategic move to empower youth with skills, values, and a sense of responsibility.

The establishment of these new NCC units in Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh is anticipated to provide a unique opportunity for young cadets to imbibe the values of teamwork, leadership, and patriotism.
