Girl allegedly molested by doctor in Shopian, CMO orders inquiry

A doctor posted at primary health centre (PHC) in Harmain area of south Kashmir’s Shopian district allegedly tried to molest a girl, reported a local news agency, Kashmir News Observer (KNO), quoting an unidentified official.

The official said that a girl from Aloora area of Shopian, who had visited the PHC for treatment alleged that a doctor on duty there tried to molest her.

He added that soon after the incident locals assembled there and while the doctor fled from the spot, the locals locked the hospital and staged a protest demonstration, demanding strict action against the doctor involved.

Chief Medical Officer Shopian Dr. Ramesh Malla told KNO that soon after the complaint block medical officer and zonal medical officer rushed to the spot to enquire the matter.

He added that three staff members including the accused doctor have been suspended till pending enquiry.

“Committee has been framed who will investigate the matter after which further course of action will be taken,” he said, adding that involved person will face strict action as per law.

Senior superintendent of police Shopian Amrit Paul Singh said that they are yet to receive any complaint in this regard. “Once complaint will be submitted, we will initiate an investigation,” he said. (KNO)
