MVD Kulgam collaboration with IHRC organises Road safety awareness cum medical camp

Kulgam: Motor Vehicle Department Kulgam collaboration with International Human Rights Commission (IHRC J&K) conducted a ‘Sadak Suraksha Jeevan Raksha’ awareness programme among the vehicle owners in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Monday.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Kulgam Showkat Ahmad Rather was the Chief Guest in the function. Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO) Kulgam, Dr Abrar Kripak (KAS), Officials of International Human Rights Commission (Vice President & General Secretary) MVD Department officials, Health department officials and owners of different sumo and mini-bus stand association of Kulgam also attended the function.

During the camp, it was given out that the aim of the programme was to sensitise the driver community about safe and disciplined driving. It was enjoined upon the drivers to follow some golden rules of safe driving which include using a seat belt, not to over-speed, keeping your vehicle fit, avoid using a phone while driving and be sober on road.

Speaking on the occasion, ADC said that the need of the hour is to impart awareness about registration, fitness of vehicles and procedures for obtaining driving license among car owners and drivers of commercial vehicles. He further said that the majority of the vehicles do not follow the road safety norms. He urged the transport department to conduct such awareness programmes on regular basis and give the drivers basic training regarding safe driving.

Speaking on the occasion, Assistant Regional Transport Officer Kulgam pointed out, “Ensuring road safety is a key priority for the government. He said that in order to make our roads safer, there has to be a collaborative and multi-pronged initiative that needs joint action from the administration, civic authorities, automobile industry, civil society and commuters in general. Sensitizing the public about their roles in ensuring road safety is as vital as the placement of curbs, underpasses and safety features for pedestrians.
