SG Tushar Mehta at UNHRC slams Pakistan for raking Kashmir issue on the world stage, reiterates ‘J&K, Ladakh was, will always be India’s integral part’
Solicitor General of India Tushar Mehta said that India appreciates the role of human rights defenders, journalists and activists in the democratic system at United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) today, reported Live Law.
“India appreciates the role of human rights defenders, journalists and activists in the democratic system but the activities of human rights defenders should be in conformity with the law of the land,” Mehta told to UNHRC.
He added that civil society organisations are permitted to operate in India but their operations should be in accordance with the law.
Speaking at the 41st Session of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) Working Group which is being held from 7-18 November at the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC), Solicitor General of India Tushar Mehta also slammed Pakistan for raking up the Kashmir issue at the forum.
“The entire Union Territories of Jammu Kashmir and Ladakh were and will always be an integral and inalienable part of India,” Mehta said.
