College student dies of electric shock inside Degree College Bijbehara

Anantnag: A college student died of electric shock today in South Kashmir’s Bijbehara town of Anantnag district.

The victim has been identified as 2nd-year student Umar Farooq Ganai, a resident of Darigund in Srigufwara locality of Bijbehara.

A faculty member of Government Degree College Bijbehara told news agency Kashmir News Trust that students were playing volleyball when one of the players hit the ball that went outside the college.

“Umar went atop the wall to get the ball from the road but came in contact with a live wire over his head. He fell unconscious and was shifted to Government Medical College where he succumbed.”

The college students staged a protest alleging that college management didn’t offer a vehicle in time-an allegation refuted by the college in-charge Principal.

The principal said that the student was quickly evacuated to the hospital, however, “unfortunately, he died in the hospital”.

Police in this regard have registered a case and set an investigation into motion. (KNT)
