Domicile law for J&K coming very soon, says Jitendra Singh

Jammu: Union Minister Jitendra Singh on Saturday said a domicile law would be brought for the residents of Jammu and Kashmir very soon to address the concerns of local populace following revocation of Article 370 last year, reported The Tribune.

The Minister of State for Prime Minister’s Office added the domicile law would be followed by the land Act.

“The domicile Act is coming very soon, which will be immediately followed by the land Act,” said Singh at an event for signing of a research and development scientific collaboration agreement between CSIR-Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine (IIIM), Jammu, and IndusCann, a Canada-based research organisation on Cannabis, reported The Tribune.

Different political groups have been demanding enactment of a domicile law for J&K residents on the pattern of neighbouring Himachal Pradesh to protect the interests of landowners and unemployed youth.

“The Centre will provide more jobs than promised to the youth once the notification of rules is worked out,” Singh said, adding many politicians had been rendered “unemployed” and were now raising the issue of jobs for local youth.

“The jobs will be advertised and given to youth as per rules and in an impartial manner. We are waiting for a notification of the rules,” reported The Tribune.
