Gang of highway robbers busted in Srinagar, toy guns recovered: J-K Police

Jammu and Kashmir Police on Thursday claimed to have busted a gang of thieves who robbed people, especially those travelling on the national highway in Srinagar, and recovered toy guns from their possession.

“A gang of highway robbers and house breakers had let loose a reign of terror especially targeting non local trucks and houses around national highway of Srinagar city extorting money/committing thefts masquerading as gunmen with dummy guns,” said a police spokesman, in a statement.

He said special teams were constituted by SSP Srinagar, which were successful in apprehending these robbers from bypass Srinagar along with dummy guns. 

The arrested robbers were identified as Sahil Ahmad Shah, Javaid Ahmad Shah and Imran Ahmad Shah – all residents of Manganwaij Kanipora Srinagar.

The spokesman said the trio are involved in a number of FIRs involving thefts/robbery in Srinagar city.

During investigation, huge recoveries involving Maurti Car, TV, Refrigerators, Washing Machine, Gas cylinders, Cooking Gas Stoves, Crockery, Electronic Goods, vehicle Batteries and 31 mobiles were made on the disclosure of the accused.

Along with these recoveries the instruments used by this gang for house breaking/robbery were also recovered. Further investigation in this regard is going on.
