IUST successfully holds its 1st Convocation

Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) holds its 1st  Convocation at Sher-i-Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC), Srinagar on Monday. Chairman University Grants Commission, Professor D. P. Singh was the Chief Guest and delivered convocation address while Lieutenant Governor J&K,  Manoj Sinha who is also the Chancellor of IUST presided over the convocation and conferred the degrees. During the convocation, 7029 meritorious students, including 163 Gold medalists were awarded degrees. In addition to this, 09 scholars were also awarded Doctorate Degrees on the occasion.

 Member Parliament, Dr Farooq Abdullah, Mayor, SMC, Junaid Mattu, Vice Chancellors of various Universities; Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, P K. Pole; Former Vice Chancellors of IUST, various civil service officials, Members of Executive and Academic Council of the IUST, senior functionaries of the University,  Deans of Schools, Heads and Coordinators of Departments, faculty members, and other Universities staff, students of the University parents attended the Convocation ceremony.

 While addressing the gathering, the Lt Governor congratulated the graduating students and gold medalists for their academic performance, and faculty members for shaping the young minds. He also extended his best wishes to the proud parents and family members. The Lt Governor congratulated the Vice Chancellor, members of Executive and Academic council, faculty and staff on having built a great reputation for IUST as a premier science and technology University, in Jammu Kashmir and the Country, within a very short span of time.

He expressed that students of Jammu and Kashmir have high potential which is evident from the large number of students entering higher education institutions. He called upon student community to dedicate themselves towards building Aatm Nirbhar Bharat, a self reliant India and  Jammu  Kashmir.

 While delivering the Convocation address, Chairman, University Grants Commission (UGC), Prof. D.P Singh congratulated the students of IUST who received their degrees. He said that IUST during the last 15 years since its inception has given a special impetus on research and innovations and the centers for research and innovation established in the university like Design Innovation Centre, Watson-Crick Centre for Molecular Medicine and Mantaqi Centre for Science and Society are in line with the New Educational Policy. Education is the main ingredient for the sustainable development and global peace and every Sustainable Development Goal requires education to empower people with the knowledge, skills, and values to live in dignity and contribute to the societies; he added.

 Earlier, Vice Chancellor, IUST Prof. Mushtaq A Siddiqi, presented a detailed report, highlighting past achievements and future action plans of the University. He gave a detailed overview of the various achievements of the university on academic front so as to make advancement in Innovations, entrepreneurial and research culture. He said that University is striving hard to be a centre of excellence, besides developing and cultivating critical acumen among students. The University aims at shaping the personality of the students, infusing in them a sense of responsibility as constructive members of the society, he added.

At the end, Registrar IUST, Prof. Naseer Iqbal presented the Vote of Thanks.
