‘Jashn-e-Chillai Kalan’ organized in Shopian; thousands gather to celebrate event

Srinagar: The fun festival Jashn-e-Chilla Kalan was celebrated with great zeal and enthusiasm at Batapora Studium of South Kashmir’s Shopian district to welcome the ‘Chillai Kalan’, a period of 40 days harsh winters.

The festival turned to be a mega-event with cultural shows being presented live enthralling a crowd of thousands of locals from Shopian, Pulwama, and Budgam districts.

Set against the breathtaking backdrop of snow-clad peaks of Pir Panjal, Srinagar based Chinar Band electrified the atmosphere with its melodious and energetic performances. Treating the crowd with a mix of music, comedy and stand-up performances band won the hearts of one and all.

The crowd enjoyed multiple Kashmiri cuisines, handicraft stalls, and a grand raffle draw. A Wall of Kindness was also established at the site for the needy.

The festival was aimed at promoting Kashmiri culture, handicraft, and cuisine. It is no surprise that Kashmiri youth have an abundance of talent and Chillai Kalan musical festival was one such platform that allowed showcasing it.

Addressing the media, Major General Rashim Bali appealed to the youth to continue striving for an educated Kashmiri Society and contribute to bringing development and peace to this Place. The General Officer pointed out that winds of change can be felt in South Kashmir and it was heartening to see a cultural festival organized in the heart of Shopian.

He stressed that the youth of Kashmir are the future and they need to be nurtured into responsible citizens of society.

The event was organized by 12 sector RR of Indian army Batapora Shopain.

Major General Rashim Bali attended the events as the chief guest along with Brigadier Ajay Katoch, Colonel AK Singh Co 44, Colonel Gaurav Sharma Co 62, Colonel Tom Sebastian Co 55 RR, SSP Shopian Amrit Pal Singh, Co 14 Battalion Crpf, Deputy Ccommissioner Shopian Yaseen Choudhary.
