Kupwara: Despite the laws that are prohibiting mining of sandstones, residents of adjacent area of Nallah Mawar of Kupwara continue to extract sand from river.
Locals said, thousands of workers are in this trade for a long time and it would be difficult for the workers to switch their trade all of sudden.
they added, the government should provide an alternative source to these laborers to earn their livelihood.
Pertinently, Excavation in the river bed and washing of sand and stones in the river, causing the river pollution and making it unsafe for humans and other domestic purposes.
