Srinagar: On 20 July, the Jammu and Kashmir police claimed to have busted a Lashkar-e-Taiba linked militancy funding module in Jammu district.
In a statement the police said that following a specific information developed by Jammu Police, Special Operations Group (SOG) Jammu and Army busted a militant funding module of the Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT).
Intel input, which was received through reliable sources, revealed that “banned militant organization LeT has activated a module of its members for carrying out militant activities in Jammu and Kashmir (J-K), particularly in the Jammu region, and in furtherance to this, a delivery of funds was to take place in Jammu.”
On this information, a team of SOG Jammu and Peer Mitha Police apprehended a person, identified as Mubashir Bhat, a son of Farooq Ahmed Bhat and resident of Sazan Doda. The police claimed that he was a “part of the same module and had been tasked by the handlers from across to visit Jammu and collect a consignment of hawla money for further use by the militants and their supporters in developing militant activities.”
The statement further claimed that during the search of the person, a bag containing 1.5 lakh rupees was recovered which was concealed in a tiffin box. During preliminary questioning, the police said, Mr. Bhat revealed that the money was sent by a person namely Haroon, who was self-styled commander of LeT from Pakistan to be delivered to the militants through their overground workers in Doda.
The police also registered a case in Peer Mitha Police Station under section 17, 18, 20, 21, 38 and 40 of UAP Act 1967 and further investigation of the case is in going on to unearth it’s linkages, and modus operandi. (GNS)
