LG Sinha to launch JK’s first film policy

Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Manoj Sinha will launch the region’s first film policy aimed to promote production of films at locations inside the region.

The policy will be launched later today – on the second anniversary of abrogation of Kashmir’s limited autonomy – at Sher-i-Kashmir International Convention Center (SKICC) in the city here.

As per the government’s Information and Public Relations department, the film policy’s highlights include a single window clearance mechanism, location directory, talent directory, equipment directory and fiscal incentives for film makers.

The policy is aimed at encouraging Bollywood filmmakers to visit Kashmir’s scenic locations for production of movies by providing them swift and hassle-free working environment.

Kashmir was one of the favoured shooting locations for Bollywood movies during the pre-1990 era. The eruption of an insurgency three decades ago, however, had made it impossible for the movies to be shot here.

The Bollywood did make a modest comeback into Kashmir during the past decade when several movies or parts of them were shot at the region’s scenic locations.
