Militant Associate Involved In Army Man’s Killing Arrested: Police

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Monday said that the killing of armed forces personnel from central Kashmir’s Budgam is an act of abduction and murder by militants.

In a tweet, police quoted IGP Kashmir as having said that the case of death of the armed man identified as Sameer Ahmad Malla of Khag Budgam turned out to be the militant act of abduction and murder.

“A militant associate of LeT outfit involved in the crime has been arrested and three other LeT militants involved have also been identified and shall soon be dealt with under the law,” police quoted the IGP as having said.

The soldier working with the J&K Light Infantry (JAKLI) regiment was posted in Jammu and had come home on leave when he was found dead.

Police said earlier that it was being investigated whether the soldier’s murder was a terror crime or an act of personal vengeance.

Malla’s role had earlier come under investigation in 2018 for allegedly driving army officer Major Leetul Gogoi and a local girl to a Srinagar hotel on May 23. The army tried them in a court-martial and held both of them guilty on two counts – “fraternising” with a local woman in spite of instructions to the contrary and “being away from the place of duty.
