Only locals should be eligible for jobs in Ladakh: LG Mishra

In a major announcement, Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh Brig (Retd) BD Mishra today said only the local youth should be eligible for recruitment in the Union Territory be they gazetted or non-gazetted posts.

Responding to a question by the reporters at a function in Kargil, Brig Mishra said jobs and vacancies should be generated and only in exceptional circumstances they should go to outsiders.

“If not local who else. I accept this. All vacancies should go to locals,” he said, replying to a question that whether Ladakh Resident Certificate (LRC) will be made mandatory for jobs in the Union Territory.

“We will do this,” he added. Regarding filling up of vacancies in the University, Brig Mishra said he will call the meeting of the University Governing Council and discuss the issue there.

“Whatever decision is in the public interest will be taken,” he added. He said a college for Sankhoo is under consideration.

There has been demand among the locals of Ladakh that all vacancies in the Union Territory should be given to locals holding Ladakh Resident Certificate.

Meanwhile, the Lieutenant Governor also visited the Zojila tunnel in the Kargil district and inspected construction work on Eastern Portal.

Ladakh Lok Sabha member and BJP leader Jamyang Tsering Namgayal also accompanied the LG Ladakh during his visit to Zojila tunnel besides civil and police administration officials. The concerned officials briefed Brig Mishra about pace of ongoing works on the tunnel.

The Lieutenant Governor also inquired about wellbeing of the labourers and directed the Superintendent of Police Kargil to ensure that the grievances regarding delay in payment of wagers should be strictly dealt with as per law in a time bound manner.
