Shopian gunfight: One militant killed, operation on

Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir police on Thursday said that one militant has been killed in the ongoing gunfight in Munand-Bandpava area of south Kashmir’s Shopian district.

Taking to their Twitter handle Kashmir Zone police said, “#Munand-Bandpava #ShopianEncounterUpdate: So far one unidentified #terrorist killed. Operation going on. Further details shall follow.”Kashmir Zone Police@KashmirPolice

Earlier, the gunfight broke out between militants and government forces in Bandpawa village of Imam Sahib in South Kashmir’s Shopian district, reported local news agency, Global News Service. A joint team of the police, the army’s 44 Rashtriya Rifles, and Central Reserve Police Force launched a cordon-and-search-operation Bandpawa.

A senior police officer also confirmed to GNS the exchange of fire between the joint team and the militants. GNS quoted unnamed sources, saying, “two to three militants are believed to be trapped.”
