4 OGWs arrested in Sopore: Police

Baramulla: Sopore Police has claimed to have arrested four Over-Ground Worker (OGW), of militant outfit Lashkar-e-Toiba.

A statement said , Sopore police along with the army’s 52 Rashtriya Rifles and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) during cordon and search operation at Muqam Putkha and Chanpora Athoora villages of Sopore arrested four persons, Irfan Ahmed Mir, Irfan Ahmed Khan, Qaiser Rehman Khan all residents of Putkha, and Suhail Ahmed Ganie resident of Chanpora, Athoora.

“During the course of investigation, it was revealed that they were involved in case FIR No. 48/2020 of Police Station Tarzoo which pertains to lobbing of grenade on Police Post Putkha,” claimed the police statement. The police also stated that attacking the police post was assigned to them by an active militant of LeT, Fayaz Ahmed War, and a Pakistani militant, Usman, “as a qualifying test” to join the militant ranks.

“As per the police records, they were involved in providing logistic support and shelter to the active terrorists of LeT operating in the area besides other unlawful activities, they were also found in touch with the active terrorists through social media,” claimed the police, and added that further investigation is going on in the case.
